John Boegel is recently retired from a career in printing and publishing in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the production and design manager for the Church Supplies business unit at the United Methodist Publishing House. While there he was responsible for the design and scheduling of church supply products—bulletins, calendars, books, official forms and records for the church.
He has always been interested in art and began drawing and art classes when in junior high. He majored in art at Cornell University.
During his career at the Publishing House, he was a weekend artist when time permitted, drawing and working in watercolor, and oil painting. After retirement he began to work in oils and pastel on a more regular and consistent basis. He became a member of the Tennessee Art League in Nashville, and exhibits his work there. He had a one-man show there in 2011. He has exhibited his work in the Art League's Central South Art Exhibition both before and after his retirement. He likes to work realistically in a variety of mediums-oils, pastels, and drawing in color pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink.
He recently began working in a completely new medium—hand built pottery. He studies pottery at the Centennial Art Center in Nashville. Hand built pottery, as a tactile and three dimensional art form, is a very different creative experience from painting and drawing.
He exhibits his work at the Tennessee Art League and the Centennial Art Center.
